Her Majesty Queen Sirikit and Fashion in the 1960s

In 1960, Their Majesties King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit embarked on a historic state visit to 15 Western nations. The tour was the West’s formal introduction to the youthful royal couple. Her Majesty had determined that She would need a fashionable, seasonally appropriate Western wardrobe for the six-month-long tour, and She engaged renowned Paris couturier Pierre Balmain to design it.

The Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles invites you to our August lecture, “Her Majesty Queen Sirikit and Fashion in the 1960s”. The program, led by Kullawit Laosuksri, the editor-in-chief of Vogue Thailand together with Alisa Saisavetvaree, a QSMT curator, will focus on the preparation of the Queen’s wardrobe for the 1960 royal tour, Pierre Balmain’s work, and his inspiration. The lecture will be in Thai.
