Kain Panjang with Kawung Pattern
Workshop of W. F. van Lawick van Pabst
At the Yogyakarta court, only high-ranking officials could wear the Kawung pattern. In Surakarta, however, it was only worn by those of lower rank. When separated by another pattern, as seen here, it was no longer restricted to court wear.
